The “Pay It Forward” Series Explained

So, we “bought” a house concert by our friends The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers via a crowdsourcing event. Not satisfied with just one amazing night of music on our own backyard stage (see photo), we schemed and plotted and came up with this plan:  Collect donations for the JFS show, but use the funds to pay for the next band! And then use the donations collected for the second show to pay for the third band, and so on. That way, our single big donation for one show generates a slew of smaller donations ($20) that fund an entire summer and fall full of music, and puts some well-deserved cash in the pockets of many local musicians.

We are planning on doing six Pay it Forward events before it gets too cold for outdoor music. The final show sometime this fall will be FREE to everyone who made a donation to a prior show. So, your one-time $20 donation gets you TWO nights of music!

Each event is designed to raise $1,000. $850 will be used to pay the next band, and $150 will pay for the sound system and sound engineer. Attendance is limited to 50 adults. No registrations will be available at the events, you must register in advance to attend. Kids are welcome to attend with parents, no donations requested for kids. Potluck-to-share and BYOB. We have 60 folding chairs but feel free to bring your own chairs or blankets. The show goes on rain or shine unless it is an unending monsoon.

Public Service Announcement: Collecting donations in advance and limiting attendance is intended to help ensure that the audience is truly interested in the performers and in respectfully experiencing the music. There is nothing wrong with hooting and hollering and clapping and singing and dancing when the music moves you, but this series of shows won’t be background music to talk over, promise.

Pay It Forward!
